UA Geoscience Symposium
April 12-14

Welcome to the 46th annual University of Arizona Geosciences Symposium ("Geodaze")

What is the UA Geosciences Syposium?

The University of Arizona Geosciences Symposium, commonly called Geodaze, is an entirely student-run conference organized by the Department of Geosciences at the University of Arizona. Now in its 46th year, it is an event that continues to provide graduate and undergraduate students with the opportunity to present their latest research to the community and to receive feedback from professionals in industry, government, and academia.

During the three-day event, students give oral and poster presentations in organized sessions. Every year, these sessions cover a wide variety of topics including paleoclimatology, seismology, petrology, sedimentology, dendrochronology, isotope geochemistry, and economic and structural geology, to name a few. The last day of oral presentations is concluded with a Keynote Lecture delivered by an eminent geoscientist. This year we are proud to host Dr. Isabel Montañez, Professor and Chancellor's Leadership Professor at University of California, Davis and current President of the Geological Society of America, as our eminent keynote speaker.

In addition to allowing students to present their most recent research, we welcome guests from all over the country and local Tucson area, including alumni, members of industry, and professionals from government agencies like the USGS and AGS. Having students and members from academia mingle and discuss current research with professionals from outside the university opens the door for new collaborations and research questions and directions.

GeoDaze concludes with a Friday evening celebration and banquet, including a slideshow of student and faculty photos celebrating our travels and research over the past year. Saturday is devoted to an all-day field trip exploring some of the exciting geological features present in beautiful southern Arizona.

Whether you're interested in learning more or contributing to new research discussion, or just want to see what's up in Geosciences right now, we invite you to join us for GeoDaze 2018, and hope to see you there!
